ALL SAINTS BASKETBALL CONCESSION and UNIFORM sizing Night

OCTOBER 28, 2008 from 7 to 8:30 pm in the gym lobby will be the next sign-up night for concessions and uniform sizing.  Uniforms are $40 per child and if you have not paid your $100 per child concession deposit, please do so that night.  Below is a flyer on basketball concession.

Basketball Concession Sign Ups

Concession obligation per player – 7.5 hours.   Please choose 2 shifts that total a minimum of 7.5 hours.

FAQ’s

How did they decide on the 7.5 hours?  There are games at our gym approximately 365 hours over the season.  This includes tournaments.  We have to have 3 people here at all times – one in the concession stand, one at the gate/collecting entrance fees, and one person to be the gym monitor/float (see below for more information on the gym monitor float).  365 hours of game time x 3 workers = 1095 hours of concession time that needs to be covered.  We have approximately 146 players (including the 3rd grade instructional only).  This works out to be 7.5 hours per player

Why aren’t the shift times the same for every shift?Unfortunately, the times just don’t work out that way.  We can’t play as many games on Friday night as we can on Saturdays or Sundays.

What if I can’t work my shift?First, call anyone else on the concession list to see if they can switch with you.  If you can’t find anyone to cover for you, hit up friends and relatives to see if they can work for you.  If you do not work both shifts, you will lose your $100 deposit.

Can I have my teenager work the concession stand? You must be 18 to work the concession stand.

Do coaches have to work?Yes, they do.  Unfortunately, we don’t have enough players to cover all the concession times, so coaches do have to cover concessions for each of their children playing.  Coaches are required to work the Gym Monitor Slot.

Why did they change to this deposit system anyway?  To be blunt, people didn’t always show up.  Coaches ended up working because parents would not sign up for a slot or wouldn’t show.  This places the burden back on the parents, and off the coaches, who already volunteer many hours.  It’s very simple, if you work your hours, you will get your check back.  If you do not work your hours, the check will be cashed.

Gym Monitor/Float

This position is responsible for:

  • Help setup the gym at the beginning of the day.
  • Replenish the concession stand when the worker needs more soda/pretzels, etc brought in from the storeroom.
  • Monitor games, warn unruly fans/coaches, assist referees if coaches/fans become unruly.
  • Breakdown the gym setup at the end of the day.

Due to the potential conflicts during games, we are asking that these slots be filled by the coaches, and parents who are comfortable handling unruly fans/coaches.

Prepaid All Saints Gym Admission Cards

All Saints Gym Prepaid Admission Card

Anyone else never carry cash?  Have to scrounge through your car to dig up enough change to get into your child’s basketball and volleyball games? (Oh, come on, I know I’m not the only one here!)

You’ve asked, and it’s here!  Beginning 12/5/08 (the beginning of the 8th grade Basketball Tournament), All Saints will offer a prepaid Admission Punch Card for the gym.   The card will be for sale at the concession stand, and you may write a check for it ($22.00 made out to All Saints Athletic Association)

How does it work?

The card contains $22.00 in $1.25, $0.50 and $0.25 denominations.  As you enter the gym, the $ will be punched off your card as you spend it.

The card can be used for basketball or volleyball.  So if you don’t use all of it this year, hang on to the card for next year!

What if I lose my card?

The card is similar to cash, if you lose it, you will need to buy a new card, or pay cash at the games.  We cannot “punch next week for a game today”.

If you have any questions, please contact Molly Culp at mculp@centurytel.net .
